Current research projects

The research project “The Household as Organisation” is conducted by Head of the Research Centre, PhD, Signe Boeskov at The Danish Research Centre for Manorial Studies. It was initiated in 2022 with support from The Grosserer N.C. Nielsens Foundation.

The project sheds light on the specific structure and staffing of the household, as well as the daily life and tasks during selected periods in the 18th and 19th centuries in the large households of the noble families of Scheel and Bille-Brahe. It examines the household and its place in the manorial world and its relationship with the noble family, both structurally and symbolically, and investigates the nature of service. The source material is varied and diverse and the aim is to gain methodological experience in order to be able to identify the lives of these less visible individuals in the noble houses.
